The claim behind the damage

Property claims are more complex than they appear.

A claim is not only about visible damage. It involves coverage, scope, repair methods, pricing, contents, mitigation, displacement, and the operations behind a business — each of which has to be documented and supported.

Building damage

Structure, finishes, systems, and the interconnected work required to restore them properly.

Contents & personal property

Inventory, valuation, handling, cleaning, and storage of damaged belongings.

Mitigation & reconstruction

Separating emergency and drying work from the full scope of permanent repairs.

Additional living expenses

Displacement, temporary housing, and loss-of-use costs while a home is unlivable.

Business interruption

Lost income, continuing expenses, and extra expense for a business that cannot operate normally.

Payment & depreciation

Recoverable depreciation, mortgagee and check handling, and tracking what remains owed.

Where claims fall short

What an initial estimate may not capture.

Carriers increasingly rely on automated intake, photo review, and initial estimating. That can speed simple claims — but a limited inspection or automated process does not always capture the full loss. These are the details we document.

About & philosophy

Firm advocacy without unnecessary conflict.

Up It Claims Solutions is an independent, licensed public-adjusting practice representing residential and commercial policyholders across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. We built the firm around documentation, organization, and consistent follow-through.

Claims involve people on every side. We communicate respectfully with adjusters, contractors, and experts — but respect does not mean accepting delays, unsupported repair methods, incomplete scopes, or unanswered questions. Staffing and internal carrier delays are management responsibilities, and policyholders should not bear the consequences.

Before you file

Not every incident should automatically become a claim.

We would rather give you an honest evaluation than file every loss. Before filing, it is worth weighing a few things together.

Coverage and payment decisions are made by the insurance carrier based on the policy and the facts of the loss. A claim review does not guarantee any particular outcome.

Professional standards

What you should expect from a public adjuster.

The public-adjusting field has earned scrutiny. Here is the standard we hold ourselves to — and the standard you should expect from anyone you hire.

Questions

Frequently asked questions.

What does a public adjuster do?
A public adjuster represents the policyholder — not the insurance company — in preparing, documenting, and negotiating a property insurance claim. We assess the loss, organize supporting evidence, and communicate with the carrier on your behalf.
When should I contact a public adjuster?
Ideally as early as possible after a loss, so the damage can be documented before repairs begin. We can also help once a claim is already underway, underpaid, or disputed.
Should I contact Up It before filing the claim?
You can. An early review helps you weigh your deductible, policy language, and documentation before deciding whether and how to file.
Can Up It help if the insurance company already inspected?
Yes. We frequently review claims after an initial inspection or estimate to identify scope, pricing, or repair-method issues that may not have been fully captured.
Can Up It review an underpaid claim?
Yes. We can review the existing estimate and documentation and, where supported, prepare and present the differences to the carrier.
What if my claim was denied?
We can review the denial and the policy to help you understand the basis for it and evaluate appropriate next steps. Coverage decisions remain with the carrier.
How are public-adjuster fees calculated?
Fees are set out in a written agreement before any work begins and are disclosed clearly. We do not use hidden or open-ended fee arrangements.
Does hiring a public adjuster guarantee coverage or payment?
No. No public adjuster can guarantee coverage or a specific payment. Coverage and payment are determined by the policy and the facts of the loss.
Can Up It help with contents and additional living expenses?
Yes. Contents documentation and additional-living-expense (loss-of-use) claims are a routine part of what we prepare and track.
Does Up It handle commercial and business-interruption claims?
Yes. We handle commercial property losses, including coordinating business-interruption, extra-expense, and continuing-expense components of the claim.
What documents should I preserve?
Keep your policy, photographs and video of the damage, receipts and invoices, correspondence with the carrier, and any repair or mitigation records. When in doubt, keep it.
Should I begin repairs before the claim is documented?
Perform emergency work needed to prevent further damage, and document it. Permanent repairs are best delayed until the loss is documented, since they can remove evidence the claim depends on.
What states does Up It serve?
New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.
What happens after I request a claim review?
We follow up to understand the loss and current status, explain how we can help, and outline a clear next action for the claim.
Request a claim review

Before you accept the scope, understand the claim.

Whether the loss just occurred or the claim is already underway, we can review where it stands, what documentation is available, and what may still need attention. No promised outcome — just a clear, honest assessment.

No guaranteed outcome. Your information is kept confidential.
